A fast and reliable connection to the internet can be important for work and entertainment. However, individuals will often complain about the performance of their home's wireless internet. Yet, there are many options for improving the overall performance of your wireless internet.

Opt For A Secure Password 

Unauthorized individuals using your wifi can represent a major security hazard, and it can also severely degrade the performance of your internet by slowing it or using your allotment of data. Keeping your network secured with a strong password can help to mitigate the risk of unauthorized individuals being able to access your wifi network. Ideally, your wifi password should be a mixture of number, capital and lowercase letters along with special characters. You may also want to periodically change the password to account for the risk of someone cracking the password.

Be Mindful Of Where You Put The Wifi Router

The location of the wifi router can have a major impact on the performance of the internet throughout the home. If the router is placed in an isolated area of the home, its signal may be obstructed or weakened before it can reach all of the rooms in the home. Ideally, the router should be placed in a central area of the home. In addition to keeping the router in a central area, you should also keep it in a cool and clean area. If the router is allowed to get extremely hot or dust, it could suffer severe performance degradation. Depending on the severity of the issue, the router may be permanently damaged by these problems.

Boost The Signal From Your Router

While placing the wifi router in a central area can allow it to cover as much of the home as possible, some homes are simply larger than what these routers can cover. In these instances, boosting the signal from the router will be necessary to ensure your home enjoys comprehensive wifi coverage. These signal boosters are fairly small and inexpensive, which can make them effective.

Keep The Router Updated

Your router will periodically need to be updated so that new drivers can be installed. The router can be one of the most common targets for hackers and other malicious individuals. Keeping the router updated will be necessary to patch any security holes or flaws that have been discovered. Typically, updating these drivers is fairly simple, but the owner's manual for the router will need to be reviewed to learn the exact steps for doing this.
