4 Reasons You Should Get That Shattered Screen Repaired

by Brandon Stewart

It's become commonplace to see people wandering around with phones that have shattered screens. After all, if it still works, why fix it? Unfortunately, even though your phone may seem to work now, it can get worse with time. It's better to get the problem fixed fast.

1. You Could Damage the Screen Itself

Phone screens are made of two components: a piece of glass and the screen itself. When you shatter your "screen," you're usually only damaging the glass. This glass can be pulled away from the screen and replaced. Over time, though, broken glass can damage the actual screen. You'll see this start to happen, as the screen will begin to warp and react erratically.

It's more expensive to have to replace both the screen and glass than just the screen, so ultimately you could end up spending more. Your phone could also become unusable if the screen gets bad enough.

2. You Can Hurt Yourself

As your screen continues to shatter and fragment, pieces of glass will eventually work their way up. You could cut yourself or damage other things around the phone. The glass will also start to fall apart eventually, which is going to make your phone increasingly difficult (and dangerous) to use.

Your risks aren't limited to glass, either: you are using a broken device that could have internal issues. That means you could also be exposing yourself to the potential risk of shocking yourself, however minor that shock could be.

3. Your Phone Isn't Water Resistant

Modern phones are usually either resistant to water or waterproof to a fairly significant depth. When you break the screen, that water resistance is compromised. The next time you find yourself caught in the rain, your phone could become irreparably damaged.

In the old days, many phones were lost to something as simple as someone spilling water across a table. You'll have to be very conscientious about your phone if you want to protect it from those hazards.

4. You Will Need to Eventually

Finally, a shattered screen isn't going to get better. The next time it gets dropped, it's very likely that the cracks will spiderweb across the entire device. Glass tends to develop stress fractures over time, and at some point in time those fractures will all crack. You'll have to deal with screen replacement eventually; you might as well replace it now and get better use of it.

Sometimes it can seem futile to keep repairing your phone's screen. Phones can be fragile. Getting a more robust case for it may be one method of protection, but changing habits and making sure to only use your phone in safer circumstances can, too.

About Me

Improving Technology Every Day

A few years back, I started thinking carefully about how I was going to take my home into the modern age. I really wanted the entire space to feel fresh, clean, and functional, so I began looking in to adding some new technologies. It was really interesting to see how many different options there were out there to enjoy, and after adding a home automation system, things really clicked. I wanted to start a new blog that centered around improving technology and knowing how to prevent problems, so I made this little website. Read these posts for great information about updating your place.
