Make Your Retreats Memorable In A Good Way

by Brandon Stewart

Law firms often send employees on retreats so that those employees can learn about marketing strategies for their firm. These retreats, as relaxing as that word sounds, are often jam-packed and almost convention-like in the amount of information presented. If you run retreats for law firms, you know you need a good product that the firms will want to learn about ("product" can include the strategies you offer to teach). But you also need to make the retreat as a whole worth the team's time.

Stay Low-Key

A lot of retreats either get too busy or too gimmicky, such as those that fill the extra time with team-building games. Keep the retreat to the point and keep it low-key. Have a set conference schedule that sticks to business hours, with a seminar guide that is easy to understand. You do want to offer some sort of frills for attendees (discounts at local restaurants, freebies, etc.), but make them useful.

Ensure Participants Have Free Time

Don't overschedule. As mentioned, keep the seminar times to business hours, and limit firm-wide dinners and outings. A few are nice, but give attendees free time both during the day and after the day's retreat is over, if the retreat is multi-day. Provide attendees with information about what to do locally; if they choose to stay in, ensure wherever they're staying has reliable, stable internet access. Remember that these people work with each other daily, so there's no need to send them out to dinner as if they were all joined at the hip.

Honor Dietary Requirements

When planning the retreats for your business, consider how you've handled dietary choices and restrictions at meals provided by your company during the day. Make options known ahead of time when people register so they have time to indicate what they need. Call in a catering service that offers several different dietary menus — call in more if needed for specific issues — so that everyone has good meals that do not make them feel like their meals were put together hastily. Many meals meant for those with allergies or certain health conditions end up being bland or rather minimalist. If you provide good meals, though, those attendees will have a very good impression of your company and may be more likely to attend future retreats that you give.

Your retreat's biggest selling point should be the information you give attendees regarding legal marketing. But you also want to make the whole experience one that attendees will remember as useful and not tiring.

About Me

Improving Technology Every Day

A few years back, I started thinking carefully about how I was going to take my home into the modern age. I really wanted the entire space to feel fresh, clean, and functional, so I began looking in to adding some new technologies. It was really interesting to see how many different options there were out there to enjoy, and after adding a home automation system, things really clicked. I wanted to start a new blog that centered around improving technology and knowing how to prevent problems, so I made this little website. Read these posts for great information about updating your place.
